Die BVG sollte die kritische Aufarbeitung von Berlins Kolonialgeschichte und die Würdigung afrodeutscher Geschichte unterstützen. Aus ihrer voreiligen PR-Kampagne, die den U-Bahnhof M*straße in U-Bahnhof Glinkastraße umbenennen wollte, und damit zur einer zusätzlichen Ehrung des offenbar antisemitischen russischen Komponisten Glinka beigetragen hätte, sollte das Berliner Transportunternehmen nun seine Lehren und Konsequenzen ziehen. Erstens muss die BVG sich bei erinnerungskulturellen Maßnahmen dieser Art mehr Expertise heranziehen, als sie auf Wikipedia zu finden ist.

Zweitens genügt es nicht, „kein Rassist“¹ mehr sein zu wollen und sich in diesem konkreten Fall der rassistischen Bezeichnung M*straße und damit zugleich auch seiner eigenen historischen Verantwortung im Schnellverfahren zu entledigen. Es ist vielmehr drittens notwendig, dezidiert antirassistisch aktiv zu werden. Für die BVG könnte das nun bedeuten, das Vorhaben im Dialog mit den afrikanischen, Schwarzen, afrodiasporischen und solidarischen Berliner Organisationen zu besprechen, denn ohne deren jahrzehntelanges Engagement würde es die aktuelle Debatte und damit auch die BVG-Kampagne zum U-Bahnhof M*straße ja überhaupt nicht geben.

BVG now has the chance to show that it is capable of learning. In doing so, it should not only take into account the political process for renaming M*straße, which is just (finally!) picking up speed. In the sense of credible anti-racism, it should now show solidarity with the Afro-diasporic and black communities. For years, these communities have not only been fighting against the repression of the history of colonialism and racism, but also against the renaming of the street. für die Ehrung von widerständigen Persönlichkeiten afrikanischer Herkunft im öffentlichen Raum stark.

BVG would also have suitable options in its own archives: For example, it could not only depict Martin Quane a Dibobe, its first black employee from Cameroon, namelessly on its website and at the Hallesches Tor subway station. It would be more appropriate to dedicate an exhibition and possibly also a permanent memorial to this important fighter against colonial racism and structural discrimination.

Furthermore, the BVG together with the alliance Decolonize Berlin e.V. should develop concepts for the use of the subway stations Afrikanische Straße and M*straße in order to appropriately address the upcoming renaming of four streets in Berlin-Mitte (Petersallee, Nachtigalplatz, Lüderitzstraße and M*straße). In a working group, low-threshold formats could be developed to provide information about German colonialism and Brandenburg-Prussia's role in the enslavement trade and resistance to it.

„Die BVG hat viele Möglichkeiten, ihre Glaubwürdigkeit in Sachen Antirassismus zurückzugewinnen. Im speziellen Fall der M*straße sollte sie sich demonstrativ an die Seite unseres breiten Bündnisses stellen, für das nur eine herausragende Persönlichkeit afrikanischer Herkunft wie Anton Wilhelm Amo als neuer Namensgeber für die Straße und den U-Bahnhof in Frage kommt.“
